I'm Fasting, So Be Scared

After today’s basketball match, which our team won handsomely by a margin of nearly 20 points;

We’re fasting today,” declared Wong, a Malaysian teammate of mine.

Dick, a Singaporean, apparently could not believe it, “My God, are you serious? You guys are crazy..”

It must be hard. You guys must be starving,” added another teammate, Robel, who came from the States.

Now my Muslim brethrens, aren’t you proud of being ones upon listening to these lines?

Oh yeah Nadee. Sisters included. Sorry for that. Haha.

Well I guess there're in fact a lot of other qualities in the lifestyle of Muslims which could awe non-Muslims alike- the question is thus left on our shoulders whether to carry them on or stay contented being a Muslim by mere name. The latter, obviously is not a right thing to do. There're so many terrible issues surrounding the Muslims world nowadays that the last thing we would want to do is to add dirt in the already-stained name, while going the opposite way will be a huge step towards amending our image in the eyes of the rest of the world, especially the Westerners.

To answer your question Afnan, I suppose it's more attributable to the lessons we had as little kids during this month. I mean, back then parents were always there to force us to do solat tarawikh or any kind of other ibadah/good stuffs, and as we grow up, such things come naturally even when there's no one to drive us. Of course in a more logical point of view, we know that God has made it clear that the syaitans are chained during this month. Whatever it is, let us hope that the good things we're doing now will not come to a halt once Ramadhan ends, that it will be a stepping stone towards an improved life ahead.

Btw, I saw this movie, 'Glory Road' the other day. I know there's a lot of basketball movies, but I like this one, the most important basketball match ever played in US. Just thought of recommending.

Watched it! My sis' told me to watch it but it wasn't released in the Malaysian cinema if my memory serves me right, so I had to settled with its CD (since DVD is way more expensive in Malaysia). I bought and watched it straight once it's in the market! Now I reckon that's what you call passion. Haha

I am totally agree with amirul regarding the question asked by Afnan. Well, fasting is one of the way for 'menyucikan hati', isnt it. so it must have something to do with our manner, attitude and doing.
1st time here, nice blog.
And i am interested with the 'about me' column "albeit he actually wanted to go to MIT" =)
