Get A Life NameWee!

This chap has certainly gone too far!

Freedom of speech never means you can simply insult other people’s race and religion. Surely there is a much better way to air out dissatisfaction. The fact that he posted this video while we are on the verge of celebrating our 50th year of nationhood really boils me.

Please, leave your comment on the video people if you really love our country, our religion. The bitter history of May 13 will definitely be repeated if we let things like this to go on.

To NameWee: Go get a life!

His story first popped up on Harian Metro two days ago before other mainstream newspaper came up with it yesterday.

The bad news is people has already set up a petition at freenamewee.blogspot.com in support of him even before his rumoured arrest. The thing is, some of us, the Chinese mostly, think that he actually stands for their right.

What bothers me is the fact that he tangibly insulted our religion in the video. I can accept his complaint, for God's sake we indeed have problems when it comes to the government and special rights of the Malays and whatnots but apparently this is not the right way.

This chap's personal blog has become a place for racial slur; every comment posted by a Malay/Muslim that goes against the video's stance was hit back by a number of supportive commenters.

Perhaps it's a good idea if we can have a view at comments on the petition, some of them are indeed good in underlining the problems they're facing.

On the other side of the coin, I believe this video should serve as a reality check for us the Malays/Muslims.

I'm commenting anonymously for the obvious reasons. I think Namewee is being silly and stupid, because things are not going to change. The Chinese will stop being second class citizens in Malaysia when Arabs in stop being second class citizens in Israel. It's not going to happen. I critize Israel whenever I have the chance, but I will not criticize my own country.

Sendiri pun pandai membuat kenyataan. Cakap tak serupa bikin.

hello.

i viewed his video and find it very amusing. i find the comments made by some of the viewers even more amusing. i'll quote some of them;

"hahaha. as i said. u can say anything. but we malay still owned you. :) if u don't like this country, go to other country. so what ? u think only u chinese hate malays but we didn't? :) we want to send you back to your motherland long long time ago dude! :)" - hazhan

and this

"justice?
Talk about education in our country? Why do we chinese/indian choose to go to overseas to receive education even we get straight A's in high school? We're the only ones who know the truth. Local universities rather accept those malays who achieve so-so results than chinese or indian even we get straight A's in SPM or STPM." - susieyang

and then there's more about Dr M, chinese billionaires, yadayada.

yes. it is wrong for namawee to use the national anthem to sing this song. he could has used the lyrics to mary had a little lamb if he is indeed so creative.

however, he chose to express himself, and i think we can respect that. what he sang about, some of them are the truth. he is mirroring the current state of our nation. you can walk into any school and speak to a chinese/indian form 5 student and he/she'll feel the same way about the education system and tertiary education placing.

my mom said the same thing about the goverment servants (post office, DBKL, etc).

as for the police force, well, no suprise. we all have our story to tell.

to one of the anonymous - there is no such thing as second class citizens. dont say the chinese deserve to be second class just because the arabs are second class in israel. that's anti-semitism and racist my friend. dont make a similiarity like that. if you really care then you will know that making critisms will not make any positive changes.

you know what, it's time we stop making such a hoo-hah over this situation and focus on something even more important. if we keep posting about this, more racist comments will find its way and more and more people will have an exscuse to say they feel cheated by their own country. soon there will be riots and we are the culprits. we fail to be rationale and tolerate each other.

let's do something else.

that's nothing wrong about how he picture Malaysia.. i agree, it's not an equal country though we are being spoonfed everyday to believe that it is.. though his comment on the 'morning call' offended me as a Muslim..

well, anyway.. i'm sure not many people would agree with me and i know it sounds quite cheesy but i don't agree him doing the song by mashing up Negaraku. ya ya.. there goes Hadi, a patriot all the sudden but hey, that's what i believe in. what he did is just wrong..

Feel free to comment.

ahh.. i'm sorry i left that out. yeah, that's true. that part was offensive. he forgot his "kesopanan dan kesusilaan". there were so many other things he could have said, and he chose to sing about that. he wasted it i think, i mean he could have really made a difference.

yeah.. i know. like i said, he could have used the rhythm to mary had a little lamb if he is indeed so creative. i saw this comment once on the youtube page, "well, the national anthem was ripped off a hawaiian song anyway.." you see how sad people are these days? pricks.

yeah, youtube comments on national anthem videos are littered with all sort of racist remarks. no country spared.. pity pity.

i agree with you, he could have really made a difference. he's talented, no doubt there. it's not what he's trying to say is what i'm against with, it's how he does it.

"well, the national anthem was ripped off a hawaiian song anyway..", yeah.. i get that a lot.
then i guess it's safe to say that the perak state anthem, terang bulan was a ripoff too since negaraku was based on it. Well, i guess not many people know that anyway.. Heck, not many people even remember the lyrics of negaraku. A simple example, last weekend was limkokwing's graduation day and before the ceremony starts, negaraku was played and guess what, no one sang! I guess it's just hard to love something you don't really know right? and that's just the national anthem, let's not get started on state anthems or even the rukunegara.

in actuality, many national anthems were based on folks songs. take the american anthem, the star-sprangled banner. though the lyrics was based on a poem, the tune was that of a british drinking song, the anacreontic song which at one time must be quite well know in pubs throughout england. that doesn't make americans ashamed of their national anthem nor does it allow them to mangle the song as they wish. in fact, they even sing it at the start of most events! when i was in bangkok once i went to watch a movie there and before the movie started, they played the thai anthem and everyone, young and old stood up and sang vigorously. i remember once when some people tried to do the same with negaraku in malaysia, people hardly took it seriously. why should we treat negaraku differently then?

heck, even if negaraku was based on mary had a little lamb, i would still be a national anthem.
